From petrified of LinkedIn → on an advisory board in 4 months

Hi Reader,

I want to make a case for one of the smartest investments you can make in your business.

(you can probably guess it)

→ Your personal brand.

One of my clients put it better than I could. When I asked if she' felt she’d gotten a return on our work together, she said:

"100%. I 10x'd my investment on a single client. This is one of the highest-leverage investments you can make."

And she's right.

Because your personal brand is one input that keeps working long after you've done the work. A single post can reach the exact right person while you sleep. A clear profile turns a cold intro into a warm one before you say a word. A nurtured network sends you clients you lost touch with years ago. You do the work once, and it keeps paying you back!

Most people never build it. They treat LinkedIn like a chore or a resume, so the asset just sits there. But when you actually show up, as yourself, consistently, it compounds. Bit by bit, then all at once.

So let me tell you about that client, Mel.

When we first started working together, she had a new business, decades of experience, and absolutely nothing happening on her LinkedIn (her words). She'd become petrified of it. It felt robotic on one hand, and like everyone was non-humble-bragging on the other. She knew she needed to be there, but she was too scared to do it alone.

(The crazy part? Mel is a senior executive who's been on LinkedIn for 25 years. This wasn't a beginner. The platform had changed, and it just didn't feel familiar anymore.)

She really wanted to grow her business through LinkedIn, but was intimidated, unsure she had anything worth saying, and half-convinced it had become too performative to be worth it.

Now, just 4 months later?

→ She's on an advisory board that she landed 100% through LinkedIn. (She commented on a post, they reached out, had a few conversations, and now she's on it, without ever meeting the person in real life.)
→ She's won multiple clients, several of them people she'd lost touch with. One she hadn't spoken to in 15 years found her again through her posts.
→ She started a LinkedIn newsletter that hit 1,000 followers in two weeks, after months on Substack with barely a result.

And it's not only the external wins. The thing she keeps coming back to is that she finally sounds like herself online. In her words, "all I'm really doing is using your formula," and barely a week goes by without someone telling her how human and different she sounds. She went from petrified to proud.

How'd we get her here?

→ We got her past the fear (it took four calls before she was brave enough to hit "post").
→ We built a profile and a presence that actually sounded like her.
→ I taught her to filter out the vanity metrics and watch what actually is important, like who's viewing her profile.
→ And we kept her consistent, 1-2 posts a week, human in the comments, without turning LinkedIn into a second full-time job. (Because, seriously, who’s got time for more work?!)

It wasn't all peaches. It took real commitment on her part, and her messaging is still evolving (isn't it always??). But now she's equipped, consistent, and showing up as herself. (Hear directly from Mel)

But that's exactly it. Your personal brand is an asset.

Build it, keep refining it (because it's always evolving), and keep leaving little deposits of trust, every post, every comment, every DM. Do that, and it compounds.

It keeps working for you, opening doors you didn't even know were there. Mel said it best: you can find your people on here. Even the ones you lost.

Toodles,
Natasha

P.S. If you're a "someone like Mel", new to LinkedIn, coming back after a while, or a lurker who's realized you do have something to say, that's exactly who I love helping.

Reply "LFG" and I'll tell you what working together looks like.

Hi Reader, People tell me all the time that I'm "everywhere" on LinkedIn. It always makes me laugh a little, because I post maybe 3-4 times a week and spend about 30-60 minutes a day on here. (Which, for a LinkedIn person, is honestly probably too little.)So why does it feel like I'm “everywhere”? It’s not because I'm posting constantly or gaming the algorithm. I'm "everywhere" because I'm off doing the actual work, having real conversations, and those conversations turn into real...

Hi Reader, I lied in my post last week. I shared that I hit 20k followers, but that’s not entirely true. 10k of those came before I even started my business. And they're not really "followers." They're connections I made, one by one, profile by profile. Let me explain. Before NearPoint and before being a sales leader, I spent 5 years as a sales professional whose entire job was to bring in business. So that's what I did. I reached out to people all day, and then in the evenings (before I had...

Hi Reader, 6 weeks ago, I walked away from a six-figure contract with a corporate client. A big name, a big contract, guaranteed recurring revenue. On paper, exactly the kind of thing you don't walk away from. But that’s only part of the story. Because, I signed that contract at what was one of the hardest moments of my life. I was just coming out of what I now know was postpartum depression. I’m the sole income earner and was terrified about how we'd make ends meet. So when this opportunity...
